observation tube on McMurdo Sound

Standing on the bottom of the world.  not the south pole

The pictures are out of order, but the story is good.  The scientist have placed an observation tube in to the soiund about 25 feet under water.  the small tube l. eads down to a glass observation room.  The tube is 300 feet off the transition of island and frozen ocean.  The ice is 6 feet deep.  but cracks are appearing daily.  there is significant risk of falling through the ice if you venture off the maintained route .  I was extremely fortunate that the scientist were diving  and returned to surface in the dive hut next to the tube.  the diver flashed his strobe light in the obs tube and waved.  I caught him signaling his crew to surface.  The kuell are abundent   The whole experience was definently a high.
